Websites as a living organism

Websites are living things and are constantly changing as new technologies become available.

If your website is the same as it was two years ago, or ten years ago, as I’ve seen some, you are missing out on opportunities. Why, because users expectations change.

Ten years ago, not many people cared about mobile websites. Five years ago, they wanted a mobile website, but expected it to be different from the regular website. Today, your customers want your website to respond, regardless of if they are on a laptop, a tablet, or a phone.

They don’t care what you use, they want to use what they have and need.

I recently redid an internal website to allow it to be mobile responsive. We started with a responsive framework, Bootstrap, and added to it as we needed. Now this will work for any device, and still be not just readable, but usable.

We also had a chance to clean up the interface and standardize elements so it was consistent with the corporate branding at the time.
